Announcement

Curtailed Library Services

Due to funding cuts and staff losses, the Medical Library must curtail services.  With the departure of our last librarian, there is no longer staff trained to conduct literature searches, negotiate subscriptions for journals or databases, maintain expiring contracts, or approve discretionary purchases.  Although we have relied on medical librarians at the other MTFs to pick up the lit search slack during leaves, there is no longer any bandwidth in the system to support that -- things are bad all over.

Some immediate, obvious cuts are to DHA-funded resources; other cuts are to Madigan-funded resources.  At this time, there is no path forward to recover any cut resources or to add any new resources at either DHA or Madigan.

We will continue to provide our document delivery services:  if you have a known article that you have identified, we can retrieve it for you from our own collections or by sending a request to other libraries for scans of the article.  We can also continue to purchase newer editions of titles we already own.

We are very sorry to announce these changes.  If anything changes again, please watch this space for new announcements.

OpenAthens

If you need to connect to library resources away from MAMC, you need to register for OpenAthens.  Your OA registration authenticates you to our publishers and database vendors as legitimate users covered by our license agreements.

NOTE:  Registering for a MAMC OA account gives you access to all DHA resources plus the Madigan-specific resources we subscribe to locally.  If you have an OA registration from another MTF, you want to re-register with Madigan so that you can get the full range of DHA and Madigan resources.
